Ethel Morgan Grimes

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Morgan Grimes will be held at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Ruby Friday, January 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jim Lofton officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Baptist Cemetery in Ruby following services. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.

Mrs. Grimes, 78, of Hessmer passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, A. T. "Doc" and Mae Morgan, her daughter, Susan Nicholson McNabb, and her grandson, Joseph Byron Morein.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Andrew J. Grimes, Sr. of Hessmer; sons, Mike Nicholson and wife Cheryl of Monroe C. Scott Nicholson-Uhl, M.D. and Craig-Jason Nicholson - Uhl of New Orleans; daughter, Patricia Resweber and husband Rod of Lafayette; sisters, Ruby Johnson of Baton Rouge, Ruth Guillory of Ruby and their families, stepchildren, Linda Grimes, Andrew Grimes, Jr., Donna Benitez & husband Danny, all of New Orleans; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as, her former husband, J. C. Nicholson of Lafayette, who has remained a great friend to her and Andrew over the years.

Ethel, a lifelong resident of Avoyelles Parish, worked for over thirty years as owner and operator of Nicholson Grocery in Bunkie. Her passion and greatest joy was caring for and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves them, not only as wife and mother, but as their best friend and confidant, with a strong legacy of love, courage, and caring. She will be remembered as a beautiful woman of faith with a tender spirit yet admired for her tenacity and quick wit.

Visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville Thursday, January 14, 2010 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. Friday. Contributions in her memory may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, www. ocrf.org.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Rivers, Adam Rivers, Eric Nicholson, Jonathan Nicholson, Mark Guillory, Lance Guillory. Honorary pallbearers will be Lucas Nicholson-Uhl, Derek Johnston, and Shane Guillory.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Joan Cheng, Dr. Dave Treen, Touro Infirmary, the staff and other physicians who cared for her at West Jefferson Medical Center of Gretna and special thanks to Chris and Jo Ann Moreau for their friendship and support during both happy and difficult times.
