Dear Bunkien,

The Bunkie Chamber Chirps:

"There will be a lot of things coming up in Bunkie in the next two months.  On May 24th,  we will have the first annual Bunkie Depot Art Market.  This will include a dedication of the Phase II Landscaping Project and the  dedication of veteran's names being added to the Veteran's Memorial.  We are inviting artist and crafters to join us for our celebration.  There is no booth fee to market your wares but all items must be hand crafted.  The Bunkie Service League will have brown bag lunches to sell and a concession stand.  We are inviting everyone to join us for a day of fun starting at 9:00.

AW Shucks!!  It is that time again.  The Louisiana Corn Festival will be June 13, 14 and 15th,  2008.  With gas prices so high,  plan on staying home and enjoy our festival that has something for everyone.  Our 2008 Corn Festival t-shirts are on sale.  They are an eye catching purple with a 60s theme on the back which was the theme for the Louisiana Assoc. of Fairs and Festival convention.  I will be getting a shipment of 2-4 toddler shirts in a couple of weeks.  The shirt was designed by Nikki Dupont of Mansura,  she is the daughter of Steve and Amy Dupont  and is a hair stylist with a salon in Marksville.  She was also our 2004 Miss Louisiana Corn Festival Queen and a very talented young lady.  A schedule will be posted on the web site shortly.  We have four great bands booked so join us for a good time.

Our new  2008 Corn Queens were crowned and Miss Brittany Lacombe of Marksville was crowned the 2008 Miss Louisiana Corn Festival Queen,  Teen Miss Falon Jackson, Junior Miss Vanity Hayward, Deb Miss Carson Rabalais, Petite Miss Kimberly Ducote, Little Miss Bekah Naquin.

Bunkie is also trying to start a Farmers Market.  It will take place at the Haas Aud. Pavilion and will be open to farmers with produce and hand crafted items with no booth fee.  This would take place during the summer on the weekends.  If anyone is interested,  please call  318  346-9667  447-0120."
